History

Every organism found on Telmatus had ancestors located on Earth, for the first lifeforms on Telmatus were brought from Earth 500 million years ago. The original colonists of this world were a variety of worms, gastropods, crustaceans, and cephalochordates. Very primtive plants were also introduced and they allowed the colonization of land by aquatic animals. These plants flourised and grew into massive tree-like forms until a mass extinction 150 million years ago that wiped out 95% of all life on telmatus. Life did eventually recover but it was not the plants that reclaimed the role as dominant flora. It was various groups of animals that independently acquired symbiotic algae, the most successful of these was a group of nematopods.
